TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The first debate between candidates for governor of Idaho kicked off without the incumbent, but nonetheless, he was the target of criticism throughout the event. Democratic candidate A.J. Balukoff faced off against Libertarian candidate John Bujak in Twin Falls last night. Both candidates spent time criticizing what they see as Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's failure to improve Idaho's education system and economy.
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — An employee of an Idaho trucking company abandoned a trailer load of frozen chicken at a western Montana truck stop after the company reportedly refused a ransom demand. The Missoulian reports that the trailer, dripping the juices of rotting chicken, was discovered at the Flying J Truck Stop west of Missoula on Tuesday. It was loaded with 35,000 pounds of frozen chicken worth $80,000. The county health department was trying to determine the best way to dispose of the load.
CASCADE, Idaho (AP) — A 28-year-old Caldwell woman has died in an all-terrain vehicle crash. The Valley County Sheriff's Office says Laura Ream became trapped under the Yamaha Rhino in the crash Sunday. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Cascade Medical Center.
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A 12-year-old cat named Pete who lived at a southwest Idaho animal shelter for a year and a half has been adopted. Workers at the Canyon County Animal Shelter in Caldwell say Pete holds the record for the longest time spent at the shelter. The shelter has operated as a no-kill facility since October 2011.
