RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service in Reno has cancelled a "dense smoke advisory" for much of the Sierra's eastern front where smoke from a California wildfire nearly 100 miles away has inundated the area for more than a week.
Washoe County reported some of its best air quality in days on Wednesday.
The "dense smoke advisory" was in effect Monday and Tuesday, when visibility was reduced to a mile at times and the air quality index was considered unhealthy for the general population.
Wednesday morning it was listed as unhealthy for sensitive populations, including the elderly and those with respiratory problems. But by 1 p.m. it had improved to the moderate level.
The weather service says a smoky haze expected to return Wednesday evening shouldn't be as thick as previous days.
