SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A death row inmate convicted of killing of a woman 26 years ago has lost another appeal, this time at the Utah Supreme Court. The court ruled yesterday that none of the claims made by Ralph Menzies had merit. Menzies kidnapped Maurine Hunsaker from her gas station job in Kearns and drove her to a picnic area where he tied her to a tree, strangled her and slit her throat.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four companies are proposing an $8 billion project to supply the Los Angeles area with large amounts of electricity from a wind farm in Wyoming via an energy storage facility in Utah. The group says the project would require building a 2,100-megawatt wind farm 40 miles north of Cheyenne and the energy storage site near Delta, 130 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A park official says three rock climbers have paid a $4,000 settlement to Utah's Capitol Reef National Park for violating climbing policies in the making of a photograph that appeared in a Patagonia clothing catalog. Park Superintendent Leah McGinnis says rangers discovered illegal climbing routes after seeing the photograph in a 2011 Patagonia catalog.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — HUD Secretary Julian Castro will help open a new Salt Lake County apartment complex for low-income residents today. Utah officials say Castro will join Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams at a ribbon cutting for the 136-unit Bud Bailey Apartments in the Millcreek area.
