Intermountain Healthcare's prize patrol is always on the move, traveling around the valley and leaving prizes for those who choose to park farther out. It’s all part of the Park Farther program. Operating in 80 different locations spread across the state, they include grocery stores, recreation centers, senior centers, hospitals and many private businesses. Each parking lot has 4-6 marked stalls and if you’re spotted parking in one of the designated stalls, the prize patrol will leave a $15 Amazon gift card on your windshield.

The Park Farther program has been getting people to go the distance for nearly four years. Locke Ettinger, director of Health Promotion and Wellness at Intermountain Healthcare, says those extra steps help to fight disease and battle stress and depression. “Some say that sitting is the new smoking. We just sit too long that that creates all sorts of problems.”

The extra effort will help those trying to reach ten thousand steps a day. “If there’s not a painted stall, still park farther, it’ll still help you out. Every little bit helps.”
