SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Josh Powell's family is asking the Utah Supreme Court to reverse a recent ruling that cut them out of a share of a $2 million life insurance policy. Susan Powell's parents got a judge to remove Josh Powell's mother and sister from the trust. Susan Powell can be declared legally dead in December, five years after her disappearance.
GEISMAR, La. (AP) — A 34-year-old Roy, Utah, man has been arrested for calling in a bomb threat to a chemical plant in Louisiana. Police say they traced the threat to Terry Cox II, who was working as a contractor at the PCS Nitrogen Plant in in Geismar (GUYZ-mar). The bomb threat forced 540 employees to be evacuated from the plant.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State legislators are taking a look at a Pentagon program that distributes military surplus equipment such as mine resistant armored vehicles to local police. Law enforcement officials and several legislators defended the program as a way to ensure police are equipped to combat street gangs and criminals who have access to high-powered weapons.
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Utah man who suffered a knee injury while working at the Montana State Prison is charged with defrauding the state worker's compensation fund by collecting total disability benefits while running a construction company. The Independent Record reports the attorney general says 51-year-old Benjie Christensen of Vernal collected nearly $100,000 in benefits.
