NEWPORT, Wales (AP) — Lee Westwood has been working out and losing weight as he prepares to make his ninth appearance in a European Ryder Cup team.

The 41-year-old Westwood arrived for this week's Wales Open at Celtic Manor looking trim and ready to take on the United States at Gleneagles later this month.

Westwood sais with a smile "I'm vanishing" and that he has lost 23 pounds in six weeks.

He added that "I've been doing double gym sessions, and also undertaking cardio sessions and weight sessions and watching my diet."

Westwood is competing in the Wales Open for the first time in a decade, since missing the halfway cut in 2004.
