WENDOVER — An accident between a Utah Highway Patrol officer and a motorcyclist resulted in minor injuries Tuesday afternoon.

A UHP trooper was driving east on Wendover Boulevard following a motorcyclist, according to Utah Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist slowed down to take a left-hand turn into a parking lot, but the trooper had momentarily looked away and didn’t immediately realize the motorcycle had stopped, UHP said.

The officer hit the motorcycle with his patrol car from behind, UHP said. The 58-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to the University of Utah Hospital with minor injuries. A 56-year-old female passenger was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital with non-life threatening facial lacerations. The trooper was uninjured during the accident.

“We regret that this incident has occurred and are also working with family members of the victims to help in any way we can,” UHP officials said in a statement.

The Tooele County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
