BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Former Argentina midfielder Jonas Gutierrez says he is being treated for testicular cancer.

The Newcastle player, who was on loan at Norwich City last season, played in the 2010 World Cup for Argentina.

In a television interview in Argentina, Gutierrez says "when they confirmed I had cancer, I went home and cried."

Gutierrez says he decided to talk openly about his battle with cancer "to help people with the same problem fight it."
