Tom Kirkland ReportingIt's the first day of the U.S. Open outside New York City. But locally, a perhaps even more profound and important golf event is happening in Fruit Heights.

It's a ladies golf outing like no other.

It's the fourth annual "Circle of Hope" ladies golf tournament benefiting the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Golfers including a handful of cancer survivors are taking part in this fun, festive and competitive round of golf to benefit all the good things done at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and hospital.

Many local coaches, celebrities, and TV personalities pitched in to help out at Davis County golf course in Fruit Heights. Smiles were everywhere, and would've been even brighter if Coach McBride had made the putt.

It's the kind of charity event you always eagerly say yes to if you're asked to help out. At the end of the day, the donations, good thoughts and prayers are all going to the same place.

It was another worthy round of golf. And while it was a fun round, those ladies are serious about their golf.
