Coco Warner ReportingDad's big day is this Sunday, June 18th. So do you already know what you're giving him?
If not, here are some gift ideas that range from 10 dollars to nearly a thousand.
There are just over 66 million dads across the nation right now. That's a big number that's attracting big business. Retailers are trying to take advantage of our soft spot for dear old Dad, but they want us to think beyond the necktie.
What if you show your love for dad this Father's Day by showing some love for his feet?
Nick Allan: "We're looking at those massagers over there."
Dad would probably enjoy a massage chair, but this model is priced at $799. A lot of money, but retailers want you to spend more on dad.
Companies that sell high tech-gadgets, electronics and home improvement materials have unleashed more aggressive marketing campaigns this year.
Chad Eckles/Brookstone: "This is our second busiest holiday, next to Christmas actually!"
Coco Warner/Eyewitness News: "Right now, Father's Day ranks as the sixth biggest retail holiday. But some retailers are hoping to move it up the list."
John Norton/The Home Depot: "Everybody is coming down here looking. What would Dad like to have? What does Dad not have? What would Dad be interested in?"
The Home Depot is offering up gift ideas that range in price from a ten dollar tool set to a backdoor barbecue grill worth several hundreds of dollars.
Of course, there's another safe gift choice.
John Norton/The Home Depot: "Just come in and get a gift card. You can put any amount on this thing and it tells him how much you think about dad. Then he's thinking, 'Oh great. I get to go to my favorite toy store!'"
Brookstone at the Gateway is offering up tools for that barbecue grill, wireless speakers, and say their hammock is always a hit.
And inspiration? Well, that's free!
Chad Eckles/Brookstone: "We just had one in this morning. She like, 'I just want inspiration, so I'm just going to walk around.'"
And even though it remains the most popular Father's Day gift, Dad really does have enough neckties.
Brenda Ward: "I've done the tie thing, I have to say maybe fifty percent good, fifty percent bad."
According to the National Retail Foundation, most of us plan to spend about $88 on Dad. But for Mom, it's $122!
