PROVO CANYON — Both a man and a boy with autism who had gone missing in separate incidents were found Wednesday afternoon.
Stephen Simmons, 20, went missing 10:30 a.m. at South Fork Park in Provo Canyon, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. Simmons has high-functioning autism and lives in a group home in Payson, while his family lives in Riverton. Investigators located him around 4:40 p.m.
Simmons was tired and had minor injuries when he was found. Medical personnel treated him on scene.
Simmons also likes to sneak up on people and scare them, according to investigators. They said he was part of an outing with a large number of people when he went missing.
The Search and Rescue team from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office responded, and a helicopter was also in the area to to assist.
Around 2:10 p.m., a six-year-old boy with autism was also missing.
A reverse 911 call was sent to residents in West Valley City, police said, but the boy was found around 4:30 p.m.
