Becky Bruce reportingIn the face of the news out of Texas, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is issuing a plea: Please don't confuse polygamists with Mormons.
An apostle of the Church issued a video statement today asking the media to make a more clear distinction. In particular, Elder Quentin L. Cook is concerned about the use of the word "Mormon" in a story about polygamy.
"Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often called Mormons, do not practice polygamy, and they have not practiced polygamy for over a century," Elder Cook said.
He says the Church has fielded calls from media this week that show there's still quite a bit of confusion out there.
