MILLCREEK, Utah (AP) — A 31-year-old man died after being shot by police in the Salt Lake City suburb of Millcreek.
Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder says Nicholas Lister was shot Friday night after he fired a round at officers.
When officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at an apartment, Lister went inside and his wife stayed with police.
Officers thought they had diffused the situation about an hour later after talking with him on the phone.
But Winder says when police informed him they were leaving with his wife, he threatened to come outside with a firearm.
Despite repeated warnings not to do so, he came out with a shotgun and fired at officers. Police exchanged gunfire and Lister died on the scene.
Two officers involved in the shooting weren't injured.
