Andrew Adams reportingIt might be a sign of desperate times. A new, dangerous trend is surfacing where thieves steal gas by drilling into tanks.

Cases have been reported in Kansas City, Modesto, Calif., Canada and now in Utah at Alpine Home Medical.

Branch manager Greg Dunn is surprised with the way that it was done. "I've heard of people siphoning gas before, but cut the fuel lines and drill through the tank was a little out of the ordinary," he said.

When we visited him, he checked over the truck that was hit. "This one right here, we patched it up right there. This is the one that was drilled into, and there was just a hole right there," Dunn said.

And the getaway? "Probably just came right under the fence where it's open here. You can lift it up, and they probably just crawled on through," Dunn said.

The bad guys also cut gas lines on another truck and a minivan. A driver figured out what happened when he ran out of gas.

Surveillance cameras weren't angled right, meaning the business and investigators need help to find whoever did this.
