MASSACHUSETTS — People all across the world are helping Danny Nickerson celebrate his sixth birthday.
This birthday is extra special because Danny is currently battling an inoperable brain tumor, called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, that attacks the nervous system's functionality.
Less than 10 percent of children live longer than 18 months after their diagnosis and there is no cure, according to The Cure Starts Now Foundation. Danny was diagnosed in October.
To celebrate his special day, all he wants is cards, according to his mother Carley.
“He loves going to the mailbox and finding mail with his name on it,” she told The Sun Chronicle.
A request for community members to send Danny a birthday message in the mail was published in the local newspaper and quickly spread across social media.

On Saturday alone, Danny received three bins of mail from the post office filled with 347 cards and 15 packages, according to the Danny’s Warriors Facebook page. His mother estimated Danny had received 375 cards and 15 packages in total as of Monday.
“We are so shocked,” his mother wrote on Facebook. “We had no idea that one article would turn into this! We are so lucky and blessed to have all of you on this journey with us! Thank you so much for all the love, support and prayers!”
Requests for Danny’s address have come from as far as Kuwait and Switzerland, she told The Sun Chronicle.
Birthday cards can be sent to Danny’s home. The address is: Danny Nickerson, P.O. Box 212, Foxboro, MA 02035.
