BOUNTIFUL — A woman was transported by a Life Flight in critical but stable condition after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The woman struck an SUV with her vehicle at 500 W. 2200 South around 3 p.m. after her car drifted into oncoming traffic, according to the Bountiful Police Department.

An 18-year-old was driving the SUV and suffered minor injuries, police said.

Paul Gaskins and Remington Carlson were working in a backyard nearby when they heard a "contorted sound of metal on metal," Gaskins said. After they heard the crash, they instantly tried to help. They found the woman had serious leg injuries.

"He (Carlson) starting grabbing towels — kind of bucket-brigading towels over to use — and then I just hugged the lady's legs," Gaskings said.

"You just kind of get in the zone when somebody gets hurt," Carlson said. "There's blood there, but you've gotta do what you can do to save the person's life."

Officers are still investigating the the crash.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
