LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada transportation officials have resolved a dispute over three acres of land needed for the Boulder City Bypass, which is a key part of the proposed Interstate 11.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1sxIHTZ) the Nevada Board of Examiners approved a $4.6 million payment for the property on Tuesday.
The state had initially valued the plot in Henderson's Jericho Heights area at less than $1 million. The owner wanted more than $100 million for the land.
Gov. Brian Sandoval, who's a member of the board, said the settlement was the right way to go because putting the right-of-way dispute before a jury could potentially be much more expensive.
The planned bypass will divert highway traffic around Boulder City and is key to connecting Las Vegas and Phoenix with an interstate.
