ANDREAPOL, Russia — A self-taught photographer and mom of two has been taking breathtaking photos of her sons on their farm in western Russia that create a storybook world between humans and animals.

Although her portfolio would suggest otherwise, architect Elena Shumilova told Flickr.com she has only been taking pictures since 2012. The pictures have reached over 50 million views on her Flickr account.

“I started taking photographs a year and a half ago after I borrowed my parents’ DSLR camera,” Elena told Flickr.com. “I just started playing around with it, taking photos every day. I spent six months learning photography. And after awhile, I bought a new camera. Photography (soon) became an integrated part of my life.”

Shumilova says her favorite thing is to shoot in natural light in any kind of conditions: rain, fog, smoke or sunshine. The pictures showcase all the animals on their farm, including sheep, cats, rabbits, cows, geese and even a rooster. Shumilova also captures the close relationship between her two sons, Yaroslav, 5, and Vanya, 2.

“I largely trust my intuition and inspiration when I compose photos,” she told Bored Panda. “I get inspired mainly by my desire to express something I feel, though I usually cannot tell exactly what that is.”

Shumilova uses a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera and a 135 mm lens.
