MOON LAKE, Duchesne County — A 4-year-old Salt Lake girl was injured Wednesday when a gust of wind blew down a tree that hit her in the head.

The girl and her family were gathering firewood for their campsite when the accident happened about 7:30 p.m., according to Duchesne County Sheriff's Sgt. Carl Reilley. A witness told deputies the pine tree that struck the girl was 8 inches in diameter, the sergeant said.

Paramedics and a medical helicopter were called to the lake, which is 32 miles north of Duchesne. The helicopter landed on the shore, Reilley said, and flew the girl to Primary Children's Hospital.

The girl, whose name was not released Wednesday night, was conscious when she was loaded into the helicopter, Reilley said. He did not know what condition she was in when she reached the hospital.
