SALT LAKE CITY — Police said a missing, vulnerable adult returned home safely Tuesday night.

Semisi Taufa, 80, was reported missing by his family at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The family said he has been missing since 9 a.m.

Laura Jones from the Salt Lake City Police department said Taufa drove away from his home in the 1300 West block of Illinois Ave. (1100 South) in a black Dodge pickup truck with Arizona plate number BBG9146. He was not carrying a mobile phone.

The missing man recently moved to Utah and is not familiar with the area, Jones said. He may have been "suffering from spells of confusion and forgetfulness.”

Jones said the family reported that Taufa went missing in a similar incident about a year ago. In that case, Taufa drove until he ran out of gas, and then was spotted by police.
