WASHINGTON (AP) — Leaders of women's groups are denouncing today's Supreme Court decision on contraceptive coverage, and they're pointing out that it came from five male justices. A sharply divided court said some companies are exempt from the requirement in the new health care law that they provide birth control coverage for women -- specifically, companies with a small number of owners who have religious objections to that part of the law. The court said requiring those companies to pay for contraception violates the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The sponsor of a California law that bans so-called conversion therapy aimed at turning gay minors straight is welcoming the U.S. Supreme Court's decision today to reject a legal challenge to the ban. The justices, without comment, let stand an appeals court ruling that said the ban doesn't violate the free speech rights of licensed counselors and patients seeking treatment. State Sen. Ted Lieu said it's a victory for "child welfare, science and basic humane principles" against what he calls the "quackery of gay conversion therapy." But the head of a Christian legal aid group that challenged the law says he's "deeply saddened."

JERUSALEM (AP) — Hamas is warning Israel against launching any broad new offensive against the militants in Gaza. This, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Hamas will bear the consequences for the killings of three Israeli teenagers. Their bodies were found today, just over two weeks after they were abducted in the West Bank. The news prompted an outpouring of grief among Israelis.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — United Airlines will be trying to find out why the evacuation slide inflated inside a plane that was headed from Chicago to Southern California last night. The slide filled part of the cabin, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing in Kansas. No one was hurt. In November, a JetBlue flight from Florida to Boston had to be diverted when a slide partially deployed toward the galley.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are closing out another strong quarter, giving the S&P 500 its sixth straight quarterly gain. The market was mixed on the day as trading was muted ahead of the July 4th holiday. The S&P finished less than a point lower. The Dow lost 25 points, but the Nasdaq composite gained 10. Homebuilder stocks rose following a report that the number of Americans who signed contracts to buy homes shot up in May.
