LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials have issued an excessive heat warning for the Las Vegas area Tuesday and Wednesday as triple-digit temperatures are expected to bake the valley and Lake Mead this week.

The National Weather Service says the Las Vegas valley will be sizzling between 108 and 114 degrees this week.

Temperatures near Lake Mead are predicted to rise to anywhere from 110 to 116 degrees.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be the hottest days, with temperatures cooling slightly toward the end of the week.

Forecasters say the prolonged heat spell and warm lows overnight will cause heat to build up to dangerous levels.
