WASHINGTON (AP) — The Marine Corps says a corporal who was declared a deserter 10 years ago after allegedly faking his own kidnapping in Iraq has turned himself in to U.S. authorities. Wassef Ali Hassoun is being moved today to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where the Marines will determine whether to court-martial him. In 2004 Hassoun was about to face the military equivalent of a grand jury hearing when he disappeared again during a Christmas visit to Utah to see relatives.
SALIDA, Colo. (AP) — Authorities in Colorado are looking for a Utah woman who was tossed from a raft in the Arkansas River and swept downstream by the swift current. Chaffee County deputies say 31-year-old Amanda Taylor of Vernal was with six others when the raft overturned as it went over a diversion dam Saturday night. Five people in the group made it to shore and a man found clinging to the overturned raft was rescued.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — The Utah State University Board of Trustees have approved building a campus test track for electric vehicles powered wirelessly while in motion. RENO, Nev. (AP) — A creepy, cannibalistic bug that infested much of Nevada nine years ago may be making another drought-related assault on the state. Experts are finding Mormon crickets marching through the desert 100 miles north of Reno. And while they're not causing any problems yet, officials are paying attention. The insects are named after Utah's Mormon settlers whose crops were devastated by the bugs in 1848.
