Obama tells ABC, the U.S. must improve surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence gathering to neutralize the risk. He also says U.S. special forces are going to have a role in the effort.
WASHINGTON (AP) — An administration official says former Procter & Gamble executive Robert McDonald is President Barack Obama's choice to be the next Veterans Affairs secretary. The official says Obama will announce McDonald's appointment Monday. The White House is trying to shore up a department beset by treatment delays and struggling to deal with an influx of new veterans.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea says it's preparing to indict two Americans. Pyongyang says they were carrying out what it describes as hostile acts against the country. But official state media isn't saying what crimes 24-year-old Miller Matthew Todd and 56-year-old Jeffrey Edward Fowle may have committed. Both men were arrested in April after entering the country as tourists.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is criticizing the Obama administration's decision to try the alleged mastermind behind the deadly attacks in Benghazi, Libya, in a U.S, court. Congressman Mike Rogers tells CNN, "If we're doing this for everybody engaged in terrorism around the world, we'd better start building prisons by the dozens."
VERNON, Ariz. (AP) —Hundreds of firefighters are trying to build containment lines along portions of a wildfire that has charred nearly 8 square miles in eastern Arizona's White Mountains and led to evacuations. Although they had to deal with hot and dry conditions on Sunday, crews did get a break from the winds that had been whipping the flames and were able to make headway.
