BAGHDAD (AP) — A top Iranian military commander says his country is ready to send any type of military assistance Iraq needs in its fight against Sunni insurgents -- including drones. U.S. officials say Iran has been flying surveillance drones in Iraq, controlling them from an airfield in Baghdad. Meanwhile, Iraqi government troops are continuing to attack insurgent positions in the city of Tikrit, in hopes of retaking the city that was the hometown of Saddam Hussein.

VERNON, Ariz. (AP) — Hundreds of firefighters battling a blaze in eastern Arizona's White Mountains are taking advantage of another day without much growth to build containment lines around the blaze. The fire has charred nearly 8 square miles, and none of it has been brought under control. Fire officials expect that to change today, as crews clean up smoldering stumps and trees on the eastern flank and conduct burnout operations on the western side.

SEATTLE (AP) — A cruise ship that returned to Seattle after a fire in its boiler room has left the port again. Holland America says no one was injured in the fire, and the Coast Guard has declared the vessel safe to continue on its journey to Alaska. The Westerdam left Seattle this morning with about 3,000 people on board.

NEW YORK (AP) — Gay Pride parades are stepping off around the world, in cities large and small. Rainbow flags line the streets of New York City's Fifth Avenue. Politicians including Gov. Andrew Cuomo (KWOH'-moh) and Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH'-zee-oh) are among those who've been walking along a lavender line painted on the avenue from midtown Manhattan to the West Village. Marchers are commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn riots, which are credited with launching the modern gay rights movement.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — A judge in South Africa is expected to hear the conclusions of a panel of mental health experts, as the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius resumes tomorrow. The experts have been assigned to assess whether he has an anxiety disorder that could have made him incapable of understanding the wrongfulness of his act when he shot his girlfriend through a closed toilet door in his home last year. The double-amputee athlete has said his disability has contributed to a feeling of vulnerability.
