VERNON, Ariz. (AP) — A forecast for lighter winds today is giving hope to crews battling an 8 square mile wildfire in eastern Arizona's White Mountains. The winds had picked up yesterday, allowing the fire to run past its containment lines. There have been some evacuations bu no injuries reported.

WASHINGTON (AP) — It's time for summer vacation for the Supreme Court, but not before it issues two of its biggest decision of the session on Monday. One case involves birth control coverage under President Barack Obama's health law. Dozens of companies, including arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby, claim religious objections. The other case deals with fees paid to labor unions representing government employees by workers who object to being affiliated with a union.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A scathing report says the system of health care for veterans is seriously ill. Citing "significant and chronic system failures" a review ordered by President Barack Obama portrays the Department of Veterans Affairs as a struggling agency battling a corrosive culture of distrust, lacking in resources and ill-prepared to deal with an influx of new and older veterans with a range needs.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's foreign minister says the United States is egging Ukraine on to a path of confrontation with Moscow. Speaking in televised remarks today, Sergey Lavrov says chances for settling the Ukrainian crisis would have been higher if it only depended on Russia and Europe. Ukraine has signed a free-trade deal forging close ties with Europe, which angers Russia and triggered an ongoing crisis.

GAUHATI, India (AP) — Authorities are rushing food and drinking water to thousands of people marooned by monsoon rains and mudslides that have left at least 11 dead in India's remote northeast. An official says nearly2.3 inches of rain on Thursday night badly flooded Assam state. Loose patches of earth rolled down the hills around the state capital today as a light rain continued on Saturday.
