HEBER — Police were called to investigate an attempted robbery at Walgreens in Heber City Thursday evening.

At 4:00 p.m., a woman complained that pan handlers had attempted to rob her in the parking lot, police said.

The woman said the three people surrounded her, but she did not suspect they had weapons, according to police. One of them asked her for money, and another grabbed her purse. The woman held on to her purse and ran into Walgreens to alert an employee who called 911.

The pan handlers were described as two caucasian males in their twenties and one female who was wearing dirty clothing.

An officer located two of the pan handlers in the area, who were questioned about the incident. Police said the alleged robbers were not from Utah and were attending the Rainbow Gathering.

Police said the woman who almost had her purse stolen positively identified one of the men, and officers served an arrest warrant for robbery for Scott McPherson, 24, from New Jersey.

McPherson was apprehended without incident, according to police. The investigation is ongoing and charges may be pending on the other two people involved in the robbery attempt.
