BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Grambling State University has a new interim leader.

The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors voted Friday to name Cynthia Warrick as interim president of the university. The appointment takes effect Tuesday, with the start of July.

Warrick, a pharmacist who has worked in higher education for 16 years, takes over while the board searches for a permanent president for the historically black college. Frank Pogue is retiring from the job at the end of June.

Previously, Warrick has worked as interim president at South Carolina State University; dean and chief research officer at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina; associate professor and director of environmental and occupational health at Florida A&M University; and an assistant professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston.
