NEW YORK (AP) — Connecticut basketball star Breanna Stewart is among 12 finalists for the Honda Cup as the nation's top female college athlete.

The award will be presented Monday in Los Angeles.

Stewart averaged nearly 20 points and helped UConn to a 40-0 season and the NCAA title.

Other candidates include Alabama's Kim Jacob, who won the NCAA gymnastics all-around title; Maryland's Taylor Cummings, a sophomore on the lacrosse national championship team; Tennessee's Madison Shipman, second in the SEC with a .449 batting average; and Arkansas State's Sharika Nelvis, who won the NCAA outdoor 100-meter hurdles and indoor 60-meter hurdles titles during an undefeated season.

The award honors top athletes for leadership, academic excellence and community service.
