RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Uruguay's football federation says it plans to appeal a nine-match, four-month ban imposed by FIFA on striker Luis Suarez for biting an opponent. It's the third ban for a biting incident for Suarez who bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 win on Tuesday.
BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — Tiger Woods is showing the effects of his 109-day layoff due to back surgery, shooting a 3-over 74 in the opening round of the Quicken Loans National. In his return to competitive play, Woods carded seven bogeys in his opening 12 holes.
LONDON (AP) — Top seed Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-EHL' nah-DAHL') has advanced at Wimbledon. He was point away from being down two sets but recovered to beat Lukas Rosal 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round today. Rosol shocked Nadal with a second round upset at the tournament two years ago.
DENVER (AP) — A person with knowledge of the situation says the Denver Nuggets have acquired guard Arron Afflalo from Orlando for guard Evan Fournier and the No. 56 pick in the draft. Afflalo returns to the Nuggets after averaging 18 points for the Magic last season. Fournier averaged 8.4 points and 1.5 assists in 2013-14.
