PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh-based company that runs trade schools for chefs, artists and others nationwide has laid off 80 more employees.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/UJcyxp ) reports Education Management Corp. has cut jobs of operation and support staff at offices in the city's Strip District and in suburban Green Tree.

The new cuts come more than two months after 200 employees were cut nationwide.

The company, also known as EDMC, has about 23,000 U.S. employees, 2,200 of them in Pittsburgh.

The school has been targeted by federal regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, which have questioned the school's bad debt expenses and sued over the way it paid its recruiters. The school has denied breaking recruiting laws, and blamed the debt problems on rules that tighten the availability of student loans.
