SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — About 9.7 million passengers flew out of Salt Lake City International Airport last year.
Figures released Tuesday by the Federal Aviation Administration show the 2013 figures climbed by a little less than 1 percent.
The data do not include travelers who were simply transferring at the airport.
Nationally, the airport ranks at 26. An extra 89,000 people flew out of the airport compared to the previous year.
Spokeswoman Barbara Gann cites a better economy for the increase.
She says the number of flights offered stayed constant from 2012 to 2013, but more people bought tickets.
Gann says the trend continues this year.
The nationwide average in 2013 increased by a similar rate.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1lNRpMt ) transfers account for about half of passengers at the Delta Airlines hub.
