BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Garden City Council in southwest Idaho is moving ahead with a ban on smoking in most indoor public places but not in bars and bingo halls for people age 21 and over. The council supported the plan that requires two more public readings before becoming law. Health officials backed the more restrictive version, citing health concerns, particularly for workers in smoking areas.
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Idaho State University has received a $150,000 federal grant to develop techniques using unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor crop health. Project Director Donna Delparte says that sensors on the craft have the potential to provide farmers quick information such as if a field needs more water or that plants are being attacked by insects.
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — A decomposed body near a crash site in northern Idaho is being investigated as a homicide. Nez Perce Tribal Police officers found the body Friday after receiving a report of a crashed van in the bottom of a canyon about seven miles northeast of Kamiah. The person's identity or cause of death couldn't immediately be determined. Autopsy results on the body are expected later today.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A southwestern Idaho sheriff is making an extra effort to find the owner of 3 ounces of meth. The Ada County Sheriff's Office says a motorcyclist traveling at 80 mph on Amity Road on Friday morning lost the meth when it fell off the back of the bike. Witnesses saw the item fall and retrieved it from the street.
