3 incumbents win Utah primaries, another loses

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Three Utah legislators have fended off challengers in Tuesday's primary election while a third incumbent has lost.

Republican Sen. Evan Vickers of Cedar City defeated former state Sen. Casey Anderson with 67 percent of the votes in Senate District 28. Vickers is unchallenged the November's general election.

In House District 7, Rep. Justin Fawson of North Ogden won the Republican nomination with 57 percent of the vote over Dan Deuel.

Republican Rep. John Westwood defeated Blake Cozzens in southern Utah's House District 72, winning with 72 percent of the votes.

One legislator, Republican Rep. Dana Layton of Orem, lost to her primary challenger, former legislator Brad Daw.

Daw staged a comeback from his 2012 loss, capturing 55 percent of the vote Tuesday in House District 60.
