SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's primary election night will be largely uneventful, with candidates for the state's four congressional seats, attorney general and dozens of state legislative races already decided at party conventions in late April. There are only seven contested state legislative races.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The decision by the LDS Church to excommunicate Ordain Women founder Kate Kelly marks a stern statement at a time when the church is under pressure to recognize gay rights and allow women into the priesthood. Experts believe the move essentially draws a line in the sand to show church members how far they can go in publicly questioning church practices. The church found Kelly guilty of apostasy, defined as repeated and public advocacy of positions that oppose church teachings.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Documents show a former Utah congressional staffer accused of lying about his Iraq War injuries killed himself in March. Court records obtained yesterday show Gilbert Prado shot himself in the chest at a Draper outlet mall. Prosecutors said Prado had defrauded the government out of disability benefits. In an email statement, the office of Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz called the death tragic.

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Fisheries biologist in Wyoming and Utah are asking anglers to help monitor the smallmouth bass population in the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The Star-Tribune reports 359 smallmouth bass were tagged in the Jarvis Canyon area of the reservoir. Anglers who catch a fish with a tag, which is below the dorsal fin, should record where it was caught, the tag number and the length of the fish. Biologists ask all of this be done without killing the fish.
