RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 19-year-old Spanish Springs man has been charged with murder in the shooting of his father.
Washoe County sheriff's deputies say they filed an open murder charge on Monday against Brandon Moore-Montgomery.
He originally was charged with attempted murder and use of a deadly weapon when he surrendered to authorities on June 14, two days after investigators say he shot 45-year-old Jeffery James Montgomery at a home on Janere Court.
Deputies say the charge was elevated because the father died over the weekend from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies say they're awaiting a complete report from the county medical examiner but preliminary information suggests his death was a homicide.
Moore-Montgomery is being held without bail in the Washoe County jail. His court date has not been set. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
