LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Cache County authorities rescued two men who were injured and stranded in Logan Canyon after falling off a cliff while sliding on the snow.
Sheriff's Lt. Doyle Peck says crews worked through the night before they could safely remove the two 21-year-old men from the mountain near Logan Peak early Monday.
Peck told The (Logan) Herald Journal ( http://tinyurl.com/kwoz9lm ) they were among several hikers who had been sliding on their feet in tennis shoes down a snow-covered ravine.
He says Randall Rees lost control and fell about 15 feet over a cliff. His friend, Aaron Speedy tried to get to him but ended up in the same predicament. Friends notified deputies about 9 p.m.
Peck says Rees was flown to a local hospital with the beginning signs of hypothermia, a cut on his face and a possible head injury. Speedy broke his ankle.
