SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The founder of a Mormon women's group who is facing excommunication held a vigil last night in Salt Lake City along with about 200 of her supporters. As the leader of Ordain Women, Kate Kelly is accused of apostasy, which is repeated and public advocacy of positions that oppose church teachings. The bishop in Kelly's former congregation will likely notify her of his decision on excommunication by today.

WELLS, Nev. (AP) — Nabbing the bad guys was only part of the challenge facing federal officials who shut down an illegal pot garden on U.S. rangeland in remote wilderness in northeast Nevada. The BLM says the drug traffickers left behind a makeshift campground filled with garbage. Last week, four volunteers from BLM gathered up 700 pounds of debris. A helicopter crew airlifted the refuse out of the area north of Wells.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State lawmakers are delaying for another year a statewide performance evaluation system for public school teachers and administrators in Nevada. The Legislature's Interim Finance Committee approved the delay last week after hearing that the program wasn't ready to begin this fall. It's the latest in a series of holdups amid concerns that the program could be unfair to the educators being assessed.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 24-year-old Northern California man at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas died over the weekend after he was taken to a hospital. The Clark County coroner's office identified the man as Montgomery Tsang of San Leandro. His cause of death wasn't immediately announced. The event was criticized in Los Angeles in 2010 after a 15-year-old girl's fatal drug overdose.
