UNDATED (AP) — Argentina wrapped up a spot in the knockout round of the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Iran on Lionel Messi's goal in stoppage time. Veteran striker Miroslav Klose (KLOH'-suh) scored the equalizer in Germany's 2-2 tie with Ghana. And Nigeria eliminated Bosnia-Herzegovina from contention with a 1-0 win over the tournament newcomers.
PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) — Michelle Wie (wee) gave away a four-shot lead before pulling even with Amy Yang for a share first place after three rounds of the U.S. Women's Open at 2-under-par. Wie steadied herself over the last four holes for her share of the lead with a 2-over-72. Yang's round featured six birdies as she had a round of 68. They are the only two players below par.
CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Ryan Moore had an eagle and two birdies in a bogey-free 4-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Aaron Baddeley into the final round of the PGA's Travelers Championship. The 31-year-old Moore had a 13-under total after opening with rounds of 63 and 68. Sergio Garcia, K.J. Choi, Scott Langley and Michael Putnam were tied for third at 11 under.
SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Jamie McMurray will start Sunday's NASCAR race in Sonoma, California, from the pole. He grabbed the top spot by edging AJ Allmendinger late in qualifying. McMurray earned the pole with a lap at 96.350 mph in the final minute of qualifying. Allmendinger wound up second and, in a surprise, Kyle Larson was third to give Chip Ganassi Racing two cars in the top three.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Virginia and Vanderbilt have advanced to the best-of-3 finals at the College World Series. Robbie Coman's two-run, bases-loaded single gave the Cavaliers the lead in the fourth inning of a 4-1 win over Mississippi. The Commodores advanced by beating Texas 4-3 on Tyler Campbell's walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th.
