PHOENIX (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have purchased the contract of top second base prospect Joe Panik from Triple-A Fresno.
The Giants made the move mired in a six-game losing streak going into Saturday night's game at Arizona.
Panik was the Giants' first-round pick and 29th selection overall out of St. John's in the 2011 draft. He was hitting .321 in 74 games with Fresno this season, with five home runs, 45 RBIs and 50 runs scored.
Panik is expected to be in the lineup in the series finale Sunday.
To make room, the Giants optioned outfielder Juan Perez to Fresno.
