PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) — Michelle Wie (wee) has a three-shot lead over Lexi Thompson entering today's third round of the U.S. Women's Open. They were the only two golfers to get around Pinehurst No. 2 under par for the first 36 holes. Wie is still in search of her first major title.
SPIELBERG, Austria (AP) — For the first time this Formula One season a Mercedes car will not be on the front row in a race. In today's qualifying for tomorrow's race, cars from the Williams racing team posted the two fastest times with Felipe Massa earning his first pole since 2008.
UNDATED (AP) — In World Cup play today Argentina can wrap up a spot in the knockout round with a win over Iran. Bosnia-Herzegovina faces Nigeria in the other Group F match, while Germany can all but wrap up a spot in the knockout round with a win over Ghana in a Group G match.
SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Qualifying is taking place today for tomorrow's NASCAR race on the road course in Sonoma, California. Points leader Jeff Gordon has a NASCAR-record nine road course victories, with five of them coming at Sonoma. Tony Stewart has also done well off the traditional ovals, winning seven times on road courses, two coming at Sonoma.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Mississippi and Virginia pick up at the College World Series today where they left off last night when lightning suspended their game. The game is scoreless in the second inning. In today's other game, Texas and Vanderbilt are meeting for the second straight day, this time with a spot in the title series on the line.
