TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — The University of Toledo's president is stepping down at the end of this month, moving up his planned departure by one year.

Lloyd Jacobs announced Friday that he will leave his post at the end of June. He had said in March that he was planning to step down at the end of June 2015.

Jacobs says he is changing his departure date after being asked to work with a global economic development organization that's based in Washington, D.C.

He has been at the university the past eight years and before that led the former Medical University of Ohio in Toledo.
