WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) is urging President Barack Obama to send National Guard troops to the southern border to help deal with the surge of unaccompanied minors from Central America. In a letter to the president, Boehner calls the situation a "national security and humanitarian crisis" of Obama's making and says the president must act. He says National Guard troops could help ensure the safety of the children and their families. The Border Patrol says the number of minors coming from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras has soared more than 1,000 percent.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan's president is supporting calls for U.N. mediation to resolve complaints about massive election fraud. One of the two candidates to succeed Hamid Karzai as president has accused electoral officials and others of trying to rig the June 14th vote against him. That has threatened what Western officials had hoped would be a peaceful transfer of authority.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the IRS says his agency's inspector general is investigating a hard drive failure in connection with a congressional probe. The probe is about whether the IRS singled out tea party groups for tax-exempt status. Commissioner John Koskinen (KAHS'-kihn-ihn) is telling lawmakers that a hard drive belonging to former IRS executive Lois Lerner was recycled and presumably destroyed after unsuccessful efforts to recover information on it. He says the inspector general is investigating that. A week ago, the IRS acknowledged it could not produce some of Lerner's emails because her computer crashed in 2011.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Actor-comedian Tracy Morgan has been moved from a hospital to a rehabilitation facility as he recovers from a serious auto accident in New Jersey. Morgan's spokesman said today that the former star of "30 Rock" is showing signs of improvement but has a long road to full recovery. He suffered a broken leg and broken ribs. Morgan's limousine van was hit by a truck early on June 7 on the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan's friend James McNair was killed and Morgan and two other men were seriously injured.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Six people are dead after a fire engine and a pickup truck collided on a highway in southwestern Montana. The crash last night sent both vehicles into a ditch, where they immediately caught fire and melted together. The victims were the driver of the fire truck and a family of five in the pickup.
