LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas mother is expected to face felony charges that could get her decades in prison for allegedly throwing her baby, her toddler and herself out a second-story window. A police report made public recently says 34-year-old Luz Ibarra is she's expected to face attempted murder and felony child abuse charges for the critical injuries to the two children, both younger than 2.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Initial claims for unemployment insurance in Nevada fell 23 percent in May compared with the same month last year. The number of claims has fallen year-over year for 18 straight months and in 51 of the past 54 months. A state economist says initial claims for jobless benefits tend to increase during the fall and winter months and then fall in the spring and summer.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — In response to pleas from historic preservationists, University of Nevada, Reno officials have dropped a proposal to demolish a pair of residence halls built more than a century ago. UNR President Marc Johnson says Lincoln and Manzanita halls will no longer be used to house students after June 30, 2015, and the university will consider options for uses of the buildings.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Eight homeless assistance programs around Las Vegas have received a total of $1.6 million in federal grants. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development officials say the grants will ensure additional permanent and transitional housing projects can continue operating in the coming fiscal year.
