LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a student was wounded after exchanging fire with a police officer on a satellite campus of Long Beach City College.
Long Beach police spokeswoman Marlene Arrona says the man was shot Thursday on the Pacific Coast campus of the college about five miles from the main campus.
A statement from the college says police saw a group of people who appeared to be arguing near the campus. The statement says when police approached the group the suspect ran on to the campus and fired a shot at an officer who was chased him. It says the officer returned fire, wounding the student. He was taken into custody and taken to a hospital.
The student's name and age were not released.
Classes went on as planned at the college. No one else was injured.
