The White House says Obama welcomed Mexico's help targeting criminals luring children from Central America with promises of safe harbor in the U.S.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is imposing visa bans on Ugandan officials who are involved in corruption and who are violating the rights of gay people and others. The Obama administration did not identify the targeted officials. Uganda passed a law in February that strengthened criminal penalties for gay sex and made life sentences possible for those convicted of breaking the law.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — At least one California lawmaker says the findings are shocking. State auditors found 39 cases where female state prison inmates may not have understood they were submitting to medical procedures that would leave them sterile. A report released Thursday recommends authorities investigate the doctors and hospitals involved.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal appeals court has struck down a 31-year-old Los Angeles law that bars people from living in parked vehicles. It says the vaguely written statute discriminates against the homeless and poor.
