SALT LAKE CITY — Despite the recently cool weather in northern Utah, offenses inside Smith’s Ballpark have been heating up lately.

After a game Wednesday that saw the Salt Lake Bees and Memphis Redbirds combine for 17 runs, the two teams combined for 21 runs as Memphis outlasted the Bees, 12-9 on Thursday.

The Redbirds came out hot, with six base hits scoring six runs in the top of the first. Salt Lake responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Tommy Field scored on a wild pitch and Grant Green scored on a Brennan Boesch double, cutting the lead to 6-2.

The Redbirds added four runs in the seventh, as Xavier Scruggs and Pete Kozma scored on an Oscar Taveres single, and Tavares and Greg Garcia on a Stephen Piscotty single. Salt Lake added three runs in the bottom of the eight, but it proved to be too little, too late.

NOTE: Several members of the Utah Jazz organization attended the game with new coach Quin Snyder singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”
