LAS VEGAS (AP) — An overnight fire at a Las Vegas home has left two children dead and their parents hospitalized. Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jon Klassen says the parents tried to fight the fire with a garden hose from outside a window until firefighters were able to get inside. The children were a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl. Police say the fire appears to be accidental.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Initial claims for unemployment insurance in Nevada fell 23 percent in May compared with the same month last year. Officials with the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation say about 12,500 claims were filed last month. Initial claims peaked during the recession at more than 36,000 in December 2008.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Eight homeless assistance programs around Las Vegas have received a total of $1.6 million in federal grants. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development officials say the funding will provide critically needed housing and support services to the homeless. They say the grants will ensure additional housing projects can continue operating in the coming fiscal year.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (AP) — A Lake Tahoe nonprofit is trying to raise $250,000 to overhaul the engine of a yacht once owned by casino magnate Bill Harrah. The Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society hopes to have the speedboat "Thunderbird" back in operation on Tahoe in summer 2015. The wooden-hulled boat was custom-built in the 1930s.
