COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — The Columbus Municipal School Board is interviewing candidates this week for the district's next superintendent.
School board officials tell The Commercial Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1vTgedp ) eight people are being interviewed in executive sessions of the board.
The school board has not revealed the names the eight applicants. The job comes with a salary in the range of $175,000.
Officials said the interviews will be completed Monday.
The school district, which serves more than 4,500 children, has been without a permanent superintendent since Martha Liddell was fired by the school board a year ago. The board appointed Edna McGill as interim superintendent following Liddell's exit.
No other timeline on the search process has been made public, other than the board stating that it wants to have a superintendent in place by July 1.
