BOISE, Idaho (AP) — State officials say another 100 ranchers have been trained to fight wildfires in southern Idaho. The Idaho Department Lands says there are now more than 250 ranchers in the region with the training. Wildfires in recent years have scorched thousands of acres of forage ranchers need to feed livestock.
KUNA, Idaho (AP) — Two southwest Idaho men police say started a bonfire on a city street that melted the pavement are facing a fine of $300 and 10 days in jail. Police in Kuna cited 31-year-old Gregory Mcatee and 47-year-old Timothy Cope after they found several people standing around a bonfire in the road in a cul-de-sac.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A group of southwest Idaho residents have opened a small creation museum in Boise they hope to expand to as much as 450,000 square feet. Organizers say the goal of museum is to present biblical stories from the book of Genesis as a literal telling of the world's origin. He says a main goal of the museum will be to counter "mainstream science." Scientists say the Earth is billions of years old.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An environmental group wants federal wildlife managers to revise a decades-old recovery plan for grizzly bears to ensure the animal's return to more areas of the West. The Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition identifing 110,000 square miles in a handful of western states as suitable habitat for the bears. The recovery plan for grizzlies dates back to 1993.
